This handsome little Mini Cooper S , (super charged ) presented itself with a water loss problem and possible cylinder head gasket failure. Water reported running out of engine some where!
We filled the coolant expansion tank and ran the motor up to temp with no signs of cylinder head failure. Just a steady stream of water flowing from under the vehicle. Can you spot it?
No signs of water leaking from this coolant expansion bottle mounted against the rear firewall in the engine bay.
Where there is steam , there must be a leak. Yes , from against the fire wall side , hidden to the eye , the coolant expansion tank had cracked all along the plastic seam as can be seen in the photo below.
Fitted a new coolant expansion tank , added glycol , a new pressure cap for safety , and away we went on a delightful test drive.
