Removing and
installing/replacing vacuum
pump (N42/N46)

Note:
Press brake pedal several times
to reduce vacuum in brake
booster.
Installation location:
Vacuum pump is located at rear
of cylinder head on exhaust
camshaft.
Remove ignition coil cover.
E46 only
Remove heater rear panel.
Note:
For purposes of clarity, this
work step is shown on the engine
after it has been removed.
Release screws and remove vacuum
pump (1).
Installation:
Replace sealing ring (2).
Drive (1) must be turned into
correct position prior to
installation.
Note:
For purposes of clarity, this
work step is shown without the
cylinder head cover.
Align drive (1) of vacuum pump
to groove (2) of exhaust
camshaft.
